Chair Chat is DMA’s television production training program, with an outcome of 13 episodes of community television produced, presented and crewed entirely by people with disabilities.
Participants learn how to produce television on the job, with the support of a facilitator in an accessible environment.
The television show produced by the group is a disability rights program with an emphasis on self-representation.
In season two, participants reported on the NDIS from the perspective of those who will benefit, the accessibility of the City of Yarra, housing, bullying, sexuality, education, legal aid and love. The show also featured interviews with Federal Member for Melbourne, Adam Bandt, disability activists Jacki Brown and Thomas Banks, Yooralla Ambassador Milly Parker and a host of professionals, politicians and advocates.
The show has just finished airing its third season on Channel 31. Episodes are available to watch on Channel 31’s catch-up service here.
